Had a Breitling SuperOcean with damaged external AR. I loathe external AR and it is totally NOT required. Enough inside coating fixes the issue. To my knowledge the best example of this is the Sinn 556A-RS. I may be wrong but I don't believe it has external AR and the glass is often completely invisible thanks to inner AR and a matte black dial.
